This time last year we were watching the weather… hoping for snow and ideal weather conditions for a day of winter fun in Downtown Prince George.  Our partners at Ness Lake Bible Camp were watching and clearing ice on the lake to make sure that we had the best ice in town to build our ice slide and ice throne.  The City of Prince George was checking out the snow scene in our local parks to make sure they could haul in fresh and clean snow for the snow wall and snow sculptures.  The crew at Viking Construction were getting ready to build the forms for all the snow and ice pieces that would turn Community Foundation Park into a winter playground. Our internationally acclaimed sculpture artist, Peter Voglaar, was warming up his tools to magically transform those snow and ice blocks. Many great groups were planning out their secret SMORE recipes in hopes of taking home the THERE’S SMORE DOWNTOWN contest trophy.  Many amazing vendors and crafters were organizing their wares for the famous Indoor Winter Market and our community partners were preparing their family fun winter activities.  But, most of all, Prince George families and friends were counting down the days for when they could come downtown and ‘Celebrate Winter’ by playing some road hockey, sliding down the ice slide, riding the Cottonwood Express Mini-Train, enjoying campfire treats and appreciating the talents of local exhibitors and vendors. Those were the good old days – a whole year ago!!!

Downtown Prince George will miss partnering with the many organizations and businesses who joined together to bring a fun and winter festival atmosphere to our downtown over the last four years. Sunday February 14th would have been our 5th annual celebration of winter in our downtown.  Sadly, we will have to put the winter playground, family fun activities, winter market and There’s Smore Downtown contest on hold for 2021. We hope to bring the festival atmosphere back to our downtown in 2022.

BUT…WE WANT TO SHARE 7 OTHER WAYS YOU CAN ENJOY DOWNTOWN THIS WINTER …
