Local businesses are stepping up this Valentine’s day to offer you options for celebrating the day of love from the comfort of your home in addition to regular date-day or night-out options. Whether you’re spending the day with your special someone or treating yourself to a little self-care, there are plenty of choices for making this Valentine’s Day a special one.
Skip the prep and order a delicious meal to enjoy at home
If you want to treat your love or yourself to a tasty Valentine’s Day inspired meal but want to skip the work of planning and prepping, you’re in luck. Multiple restaurants have put together drool-worthy meals that are ready to eat or cook.
Prefer breakfast to dinner? Start your Valentine’s Day with breakfast in bed prepared by the Twisted Cork. The breakfast box includes croissants with preserves, a pound of applewood smoked bacon, pancake mix, fresh field berries, homemade whip cream, and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Each box comes with a mimosa kit.
If you want dinner too, the Twisted Cork has you covered here as well. Their Valentine’s Day dinner box includes casesar salad and a choice of either a surf and turf meal or cream cheese stuffed chicken with white wine garlic cream sauce. Vegetarians rejoice, as an eggplant parmesan with crispy fried parmesan panko crust is also available! You’ll need to get your orders in for both boxes by February 10th.
If you love seafood, you’ll want to order the chef at home seafood pot from White Goose Bistro. It includes a three-course dinner featuring salad, a seafood pot, and dessert. The pot includes two full lobsters, crawfish, crab legs, prawns, scallops, mussels, clams, chorizo sausage, fingerling potatoes, and corn. This is the ultimate seafood meal and it comes with step-by-step preparation instructions.
Farmhouse Catering is offering a four-course dinner for two made from locally sourced products that includes a tasty dessert. Enjoy shrimp gnocchi with parmesan, coconut lentil curry on butternut squash, stuffed beef tenderloin with wild lobster mushroom and sea scallops and baby vegetables, along with assorted desserts. Celebrating solo? Order the dinner and save the leftovers or send them a note to see if you can order dinner for one. And if you have food restrictions, Farmhouse Catering will modify your order as per your request. Make sure to get your orders in by February 10th.
And the Northern Lights Estate Winery is offering a dinner for two consisting of a charcuterie board and a three-course meal including a green salad, smokes 1/2 chicken seasoned with Szechuan pepper rub and Mirtillo demi glaze, potato cauliflower au gratin, seasonal vegetable medley, house-made marble brownies, and pistachio streusel. Comes with an instruction sheet for preparing/reheating. Free in-town delivery is available on February 13th between 1 and 5 pm.
Want to skip the meals and go straight to dessert? Order some hand-dipped long stemmed chocolate covered strawberries from Rocky Mountain Chocolate or pick up some chocolate from Purdys or a baked treat from Pastry Chef Bakery.
Escape the house for dinner and a night’s stay at a local hotel
If you’re feeling like you need to get out of the house for Valentine’s Day, treat you and your significant other or just yourself to dinner at a local restaurant and an overnight stay at one of the many luxurious hotels Prince George has to offer.
Lots of restaurants are offering special menus for Valentine’s Day, including Browns Socialhouse, which has prepared a two can dine set menu. It includes one appetizer, two entrees, and one desert to share, all for a very affordable price! North 54 is offering a special Valentine’s dinner on February 14th. The three-course dinner includes a first course of carpaccio thinly shaved 28-day aged beef tenderloin, neptune mushrooms stuffed with crab and boursin cheese, starter lobster ravioli, or ensalada caprese, a second course consisting of seafood pasta, morel stuffed chicken, or a 10 oz prime rib, and dessert. Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended. The Canadian Brewhouse is offering a Valentine’s Day surf and turf dinner that consists of a starter and an entrée. Registration is required!
Wrap up your romantic night out by booking a stay at a local hotel. The Coast Inn of the North is offering a Valentine’s Package, which comes with a bottle of chilled wine and chocolate dipped strawberries. Or book the Sweet Heart Package offered by the Ramada, which includes a premiere room, spacious traditional suite, or king jacuzzi suite, with chocolate dipped fruit, champagne, and a gift package, as well as a complimentary breakfast for two. The Prestige Treasure Cove offers a Romance package that includes one night of accommodation along with a bottle of red or white wine, two boxes of chocolate, two dozen roses, and a complimentary 1 pm late check-out.
Treat your Valentine and/or yourself to a spa day or treatment
Prince George offers a multitude of options for pampering you and your significant other or yourself. Book a single or couple’s spa package at Trend Setters, Razor’s Edge, The London, Body Elements, the Spa of the North, Azure, Core Salon and Spa, PG Beauty Trends, Transformation Day Spa, or any of the other amazing day spas in the city.
If you don’t want the full spa experience, book a manicure or pedicure at any of the listed day spas or at one of the following nail bars: TL Nails, Victoria Beauty Nails and Spa, or Elira Beauty Bar. Some of these businesses offer additional spa services that you can take advantage of before your manicure or pedicure.
Get adventurous or crafty for Valentine’s Day
If you’d rather take part in an activity for Valentine’s Day or want to do something before your spa day, dinner, or overnight hotel stay, check out the staycation packages on the Tourism Prince George website. There are options for guided snowshoes, a private ice fishing staycation, and a guided winter hike, plus additional options for overnight staycations at local hotels.
Feeling crafty? Book a time to tackle a Valentine’s Day themed craft at The Makerie. You can build a love shack, paint a portrait of your partner, create the likeness of your loved one or an ex on a cute canvas plushie – stabbing a pin through its heart is optional (or is it?), or make a sassy badge that let’s people know how you really feel about them. If you’d rather take a craft to go, you can buy a sassy badge kit to work on at home.
No matter what you choose to do on Valentine’s Day, make sure you’re following provincial health guidelines and stick to celebrating with people in your household, or if you live alone, one of the two people you’ve chosen to be in your core bubble.
